The Roomba Revolt or The Coming Robot Apocalypse

The CDC is prepared for a zombie apocalypse. Hollywood is making WORLD WAR Z. The post apocalyptic world seems to be everywhere.

It has even become initialized. PA means Post Apocalyptic. Usually this meant to signify that zombies have taken over the world, or in a more personal sense, certain relatives have gained ascendancy.

A more realistic, albeit unlikely, threat may come from robots. In the video below, Daniel H. Wilson, author of Robopocalypse and Future Tense contributor, developed a down-and-dirty guide to recognizing and then responding to an apocalypse orignating from mechanical wonder gone amuck.

How will you know if a machine uprising is imminent? Understand the basics. Know what a robot’s designed for. If your Roomba has stopped cleaning and has begun staring at the TV and starts muttering about creeping socialism, start getting suspicious. Dr Wilson says another “dead giveaway” is spinning buzz saws as arms.

Forbin's Colossus or Skynet maybe the super computer menace, but it will be the simple, everyday robots that can truly herald a coming apocalypse, one where we mere humans are grist for their malevolent ways.

I think I will venture into the lab tonight and begin working on an EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) gun. That should stop 'em.
